Panasonic TX-P42G20B 42-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p 600Hz Neo Plasma TV with Freeview HD and Freesat HD Review
Upgrading from a 15 year old CRT where in low light level scenes everything is just black as the contrast was going - so no good for X Files DVDs where one episode in three they forget their torches....
Had this about 24 hours and so easy to setup, just plug it in and away it goes and finds all the channels.
As a bonus it supports Freeview HD which in my areas is BBC and ITV1 which are superb quality - on Dr Who last night the faces and lighting were exceptional and you felt you could reach inside the screen.
Bought a Panasonic DMP-BD65EB blu-ray with the TV and when you put on Wall E it is literally jaw dropping quality.
SD broadcasts are okay but you quickly the see the limitations, bring on more HD channels.
I have no external sound system but the internal speakers are fine and have sufficient oomph for most programs.
Net result a major step forward for me and even my wife is now a supporter where previously the favourite comment was "why do we need a new telly as the old one is okay". But after seeing it and then seeing her favourite film "Day After Tomorrow" on blu-ray last night she has now changed her mind.
The next battle is purchase an accompanying sound system....
One thing which would be useful is a description of optimum/calibration settings which will help get the best out this set and/or reduce the power consumption...

PLASMA SO GOOD EVEN OUR BODY USES IT TO KEEP US ALIVE (JOKE) BUT YOU GET MY POINT LOL:) - Mr. B. Dean -
Brought this to replace a nearly 6 year old Samsung 32' LCD tv, which until I turned the Panasonic on, thought had great picture quality and would I really be able to determine the difference in image fidelity.
This TV really shows how things have improved.
I'm using it to watch Freeview, and blu-rays, and on every level this TV as exceeded my expectations.
I had intended to get an LED backlit model from SONY or LG, but having seen how slim this model is (not as slim admitedly as the LED backlit models, but slimmer than my old LCD) I decided to take the plunge.
It really is fantastic, I see new depth, and visual clarity in everything this displays, regular TV, blu-rays, xbox games, everything looks fantasic. It makes me want to watch everything I've watched again! Plasma is still the best!
I have only one complaint (in two parts) the programme guide does not contain a picture of what you where watching, and it has banner adverts in it, otherwise this TV is brilliant, I haven't even talked about the online features, wireless, USB recording, dual Freeview HD and Freesat HD, etc.
final word: Mr B Dean
Good screen - J. I. N. Brameld - UK
I selected this screen after spending an evening in John Lewis looking at them all in some detail. The Panasonic won hands down for image quality.
Having got it set up now, I was not disappointed and the pictures are excellent. I still have to work on a Lip Synch problem when showing DVDs but I need to fiddle with the delay settings for that.
Internal sound is not that great, but hooked up to an external sound system it's fine.
Freeview HD images are very good. Standard freeview not quite so good but very watchable.
All in all a good product that I'm very happy with, apart from needing to dust the surround all the time!
Fully equipped HD TV - Bryan Carter - Essex, UK
It is what it says on the box... an extremely attractive and functionally loaded TV. Easy to set up and exceptional picture/sound.
